A Holistic Approach to DEI
DEI covers multiple different dimensions. Gender, Race, Ethnicity, Age, Engagement, Opportunities, Disability are some of the metrics, but the list is much longer. As a consequence, a holistic approach is essential when discussing, measuring, analyzing, or assessing DEI.
Today, most DEI efforts focus on a single or two DEI dimensions (Gender and Race). A single or narrow approach to DEI leads to lost opportunities and minimizes the return on DEI investments. Score examples
Scores are calibrated to macro level data
If country Gender distribution is ~50/50, the model for gender is calibrated to score 100 for equilibrium around 50/50
Race/Ethnicity is calibrated to country of operations: a company with 100% Caucasian leadership in US scores less than a company with same ratio in Denmark, due to different race/ethnicity composition of the population (higher % of Caucasian in Denmark)
